Research & Development Statistics

Total R&D expenditure in 2007 amounted to HK$12.4 billion, 4% higher than that recorded in 2006. The moderation in the growth momentum of total R&D expenditure was mainly due to the consolidation of R&D expenditure for the business sector in 2007, after a period of rapid growth of the latter over the past few years. The business R&D expenditure increased markedly by 77%, from HK$3.5 billion in 2003 to HK$6.3 billion in 2006. Then, it receded to HK$6.1 billion in 2007, 4% lower than that in 2006.
