Human resources

In 2007, there was a total of 24,506 research scientists and engineers (RSE) and 4094 full time postgraduate research students. Out of 24,506 RSEs, 17% are foreigners. 61% were researchers were working in the field of engineering and technology, followed by 30% in natural, biomedical and related sciences. Key data from National R&D survey and OECD is presented below. Most of the figures are same but because of definitions, distribution of manpower under different classification may vary.
