KIET's Advanced Technologies and Service Industries Division carries out extensive research on the newly emerging industries within Korea's changing industrial structure. Studies focus on strengthening the competitiveness and raising the added-value of these industries through analyzing domestic industrial infrastructure as well as foreign competing industries. The division consists of 4 teams: New Technology Industries, Information Technology Services, Business Service Industries, and Digital Contents and Culture.

Daejeon City would facilitate commercialization, with organic cooperation between innovation subjects by constructing 18 state-of-the-art industry clusters comprising four strategic industries (IT, BT, new material, mechatronics) and four new growth engine industries (aviation space, defense, atomic energy, and Ubiquitous technology), nurturing special clusters by segments such as IT, BT, and NT as well.
Of the Incheon Metropolitan City's economic zones, Song-do will be developed as a center of high-tech industries including IT, Yeongjong-do as a base for logistics, and Cheongra as a center for tourism, leisure and international finance.
